5.0 star star star star starHe did a great job fixing my broken femur! Very minimally invasive. Very good at explaining everything prior to surgery and throughout the progression of my recovery. I’m so glad Dr Merk did my surgery.

5.0 star star star star starHe saved my shoulder from being replaced. The CSCAN to a nonmedical person like myself, or anyone understanding structures, could see the shoulder break was bad. But Dr. Merk found a way, and I will be forever grateful he did.

5.0 star star star star starI went to Dr. Merk for a second opinion, and I couldn’t have made a better decision. He listened to my concerns, answered all of my questions and spent more time with me than most doctors. The only negative was the lengthy wait from when the PA left until he came in.

5.0 star star star star starThis is my second time under the care of Dr Merk for a broken bone. The first was after an awful accident that required surgery. His bedside manner is terrific and even more importantly, he is a very gifted orthopedic surgeon. I always appreciate how he and his staff explain, making use of X-ray images, what is going on. Once again, high marks for this good doctor.

5.0 star star star star starDr Merk spent enough time explaining the progress and healing process going on with my knee injury. And, several times he asked if I had any question. He told me I can always ask a question using MyChart.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Merk and staff are so thorough--and were able to see me immediately about my very painful heel. 3 exrays later they knew exactly what was wrong with my heel: plantar fasciitis, ; and gave me the tools to make it feel better: silicon pads for my shoes; appt. with the Northwestern therapist, Erich, who is excellent and is giving me the correct exercises to take the pressure off the my heel. Plus it was wonderful seeing Dr. Merk again; he put my broken ankle back together in 2016-17.

5.0 star star star star starexplains everything in detail especially where surgery is indicated and provides options with pros and cons. Explains x-rays, MRI, etc thoroughly allowing time for questions.. Tells it "like it is" which might not be what one wants to hear, but important to be up front!

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg.
