Dr. Bowen is amazing. He is one of the kindest and most compassionate doctors, but he is also very knowledgeable and truly cares about his patients. He involves them in treatment decisions, takes time to answer all questions, has a great bedside manner, and does not make patients feel like a number. Additionally, he is continually learning himself, researching new treatment options, and writing articles to help educate others. Dr. Bowen's patients literally (not figuratively) put their lives in his hands, particularly with some of the serious, aggressive, rare eye diseases he treats. However, he is so humble about this and takes this responsibility very seriously. I have connected with several other of Dr. Bowen's patients, and we all agree that he is a fantastic doctor and implicitly trust his judgment and care.

He is both a fabulous doctor and an amazing human being. He called me the day after Christmas from his home to introduce himself and provide me with valuable information to help me understand what this journey may become - and in doing so, eased my fears right from the very start. He is both an extremely knowledgeable and skilled professional while also taking into account the patient's need for emotional understanding and support. Because he exudes knowledge, skill and compassion, I can renew hope and trust. That's a good starting point for what is yet to come to continue my recovery.

Dr. Bowen is always very kind, compassionate and involves his patience and treatment decisions. He also educate his patients and is very patient, especially when a patient asks several involved questions. I joked that he should charge tuition since I asked very involved questions, which required detailed answers. Instead of getting annoyed or frustrated, Dr. Bowen took the time to answer every question and presented the information in a way that a teacher would to ensure understanding. I also learn so much from him, and he welcomed the opportunity to share knowledge. Dr. Bowen clearly cares about his patients, too. I sent a message to him through My Chart. In less than 30 minutes, he had someone on his team respond to me and get me in that day to check out a new issue. Dr. Bowen is not only an excellent doctor, but he is also very humble. I watched him sanitize the room himself in between patients before I went him. As always, I highly recommend Dr. Bowen. My life and the lives of other patients are literally (not figuratively) in his hands. He does not take this lightly.

Dr. Bowen is not only an excellent ocular oncologist. He is knowledgeable, interested in hearing and addressing patient questions, involving them in treatment plans and is kind, personable and compassionate. It is also evident that he truly cares about his patients. Moreover, he also thinks outside the bud when needed. Dr. Bowen treats patients with serious and so times rare eye diseases. Treatment isn't always a one-size-fits-all approach. He considers this and confers with colleagues when needed to ensure patients have the best treatment available. I am extremely confident that I am in the best hands possible with Dr. Bowen.

Please see comments above Dr. Bowen is one of the most compassionate and also extremely knowledgeable caregivers that I have had. He built a team both in his direct office and to help build a top notch care team for his patients. I think that with Dr. Bowen, Dr. Choi (to whom he referred me as my medical oncologist), Dr. Thomas and the rest of care team he has built for me, I am in excellent hands. I appreciate that he is not just a medical practitioner with vast knowledge, but he's also a very kind and personable provider. I also love that he listens to ideas for from those who work for him. When Christina was taking images of my eye, she had a thought on another image to take and presented it to Dr. Bowen. After she presented the idea, Dr. Bowen had her do the additional imaging and it provided more information. To me, it's great that such a high-level doctor that he is listens to his support staff and validate their ideas, having them implemented appropriate. I would highly recommend Dr. Bowen and his team to anyone who is diagnosed with uveal melanoma. I have had nothing but excellent care from all my providers at Northwestern Medicine.
