3.0 star star star star_border star_borderI feel like a number and that there is no interest in getting to know me as a patient. I felt completely abandoned during my last 20+ days in the hospital with a flare. I just figured given the setbacks and complexity that I would be able to see the doctor. After all, isn’t that why we have appointments? I feel he is knowledgeable and skilled. I just feel the bedside manner could be far better. I leave wondering what I said or did wrong. Progress hasn’t been great, so that is also a point of frustration. I just expected a bit more urgency and involvement given things aren’t going well. I’ve done every test under the sun and done all I can as a patient.

5.0 star star star star starSame as above answer. I truly enjoy and appreciate the personal treatment. Unlike most hospitals/clinics that treat you like it’s assembly line for medical care, Northwestern and Dr Hanauer have always treated me like an individual.

4.0 star star star star star_borderIn the past, I felt like I was guarded on expressing how I was feeling and didn’t feel listened to. Today was better and I feel that we’re taking action steps to get to a root problem of my symptoms

5.0 star star star star starI thoroughly enjoy my visits with Dr. Hanauer! In addition to his very competent monitoring of my IBD, he has always engaged me as a full human being, and this quality--absent as it is in many medical encounters--is what makes him such an excellent physician. I have and will continue to recommend him to other people.

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg.
