Within the Division of Infectious Disease, the HIV program of Northwestern Medicine has led the way in treating patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) since 1988.

  • Comprehensive assessment and medical treatment
  • Medication evaluation and teaching by a pharmacist
  • Clinical social work services
  • Patient/family education
  • Home healthcare coordination
  • Consultation with a patient’s primary physician
  • Clinical research studies
  • Infusion therapy services
  • Inpatient consultation and care coordination
    • When patients with HIV infection require inpatient hospitalization at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, we follow their care with an interdisciplinary HIV team to insure continuity of care.

Specialty clinics

We have specialty clinics to treat HIV-infected patients who have additional needs:

  • Co-Infection Clinic: Provides consultation and evaluation for patients with HIV infection who are seeking organ transplantation
  • HIV/Hemophilia Clinic: Provides hematology consultation to patients with HIV and hemophilia
  • Women's Clinic: Provides obstetric and gynecologic care for women with HIV infection
