Venous Ulcer Treatments

Venous ulcers, even longstanding ones, can heal with proper wound care as well as by identifying and treating the underlying disease. The majority of patients with venous ulcers are treated conservatively with medical therapy; however, surgery may be needed. Treatment goals are to:

  • Prevent or reduce infection
  • Prevent recurrence
  • Promote healing of ulcers
  • Reduce leg swelling
