Overview

Sleep-related Hypoventilation and Hypoxemic Syndromes

In sleep-related hypoventilation and hypoxemic syndromes, breathing is restricted during sleep, resulting in low oxygen levels or high carbon dioxide levels in the blood. Attempting to increase the oxygen levels in your blood, your body will wake you up to initiate episodes of shallow breathing (hypoventilation) that may last longer than 10 seconds each.
