Uveitis Treatments

Your physician will start treatment for uveitis as soon as possible to prevent other conditions from developing and to protect your vision. Untreated uveitis can lead to blindness.

Treatments include:

  • Steroid drops to reduce inflammation
  • Mydriatic drops to dilate your pupil and reduce pain
  • Injections for uveitis that doesn’t respond to drops
  • Medications, including:
    • Pain relievers
    • Oral steroids for hard-to-treat uveitis
    • Antibiotics for infection
    • Immunosuppressants to reduce inflammation that accompanies autoimmune diseases
  • Surgery to remove the infected gel in your eye or to implant a capsule that releases steroids over time
