Working closely with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, the Thoracic Surgical Oncology Program team members are pioneers and national leaders in performing minimally invasive thoracic surgery including robotic surgery. Our minimally invasive program offers both robotic and thoracoscopic procedures for the effective treatment of the different cancers.

We routinely perform highly sophisticated procedures such as lung preserving surgery for lung cancer (segmentectomy) and esophagectomies. This helps result in significantly shorter hospital stays, less post-operative pain, improved breathing, fewer complications, and a more rapid return to normal activities for many of our patients.

We also offer conventional surgery for highly aggressive and advanced cancers. Patients receive treatment from a dedicated multidisciplinary team of specialists and every patient is extensively discussed in the tumor board. Our post-operative complication and mortality rates are among the lowest in the nation. Northwestern University is also one of the world’s leading biomedical research centers, and the patients also have access to clinical trials for promising new drugs.
