Overview

What are Interstitial Lung Abnormalities (ILAs)?

Interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) are mild changes in the lungs that can be seen on CT scans. Over time, these mild changes can become more severe and eventually cause lung disease, called interstitial lung disease (ILD). Identifying these changes in the lungs early, before symptoms like cough and shortness of breath develop, is incredibly important and can positively affect your health.

In our ILA clinic, we review a patient's medical history and imaging tests and recommend additional testing that can help us understand more about why there are ILAs in the lungs. We then develop individualized plans for monitoring these changes over time, and initiate treatment if and when needed.
