Causes and Diagnoses of Interstitial Lung Abnormalities

Risk factors for ILAs include:

  • Increasing age
  • Current or prior smoking history
  • Family history of interstitial lung disease
  • Environmental or occupational exposures
  • Genetic predisposition

How ILAs are diagnosed:

  • Comprehensive medical and exposure history
  • Pulmonary function testing (PFTs)
  • Follow-up imaging to monitor for changes over time
  • Multidisciplinary review by ILD specialists
