Venous Duplex Scan

A venous duplex scan is a non-invasive, painless ultrasound test used to see the veins and vein valves. Using high-frequency sound waves and a computer to create images of the blood vessels, this technology allows your physician to assess blood flow and valve function and detect blockages in the veins.

The goal is to detect a clot in the deep veins of the leg before it breaks off and travels through the blood to another area of the body, especially the lungs (pulmonary emboli).
