At Northwestern Medicine, our patient’s feedback is important to us. While different care providers have their own unique strengths, we strive to be as transparent as possible with our quality of care.
Dr Alam took the time to answer all my questions and provide thoughtful explanations and insights so I truly understood everything and felt set up for success. I didn't feel pressured into making decisions I wasn't comfortable with and it was made clear that I was the driver of my care. A previous dermatologist I saw gave me misinformation and set me down an unnecessary path to see a plastic surgeon that made me feel rushed and uncomfortable. Dr Alam was very patient when it called for it but very quick and efficient when needed. I felt total trust in his knowledge and expertise and had the impression that him and his team truly cared about what was best for me. They listened to my concerns and offered concrete solutions. They never made me feel embarrassed or ashamed. I truly am so grateful beyond words for their expert care!
I could not be happier with the care I experienced at NM Derm. I went to another provider first and didn't feel comfortable with my visit or the plan for care so I decided to try scheduling a visit here. The difference was like night and day. Dr Alam and all his staff were kind, informative, patient, capable, understanding, efficient, and just downright wonderful. Dr Alam took the time to answer all my questions and provide thoughtful explanations and insights so I truly understood everything and felt set up for success. I'm so thankful I came to them!
After waiting 2 hours in reception, I was brought into an exam room for my procedure. The nurse numbed the area and said dr alam would be right in. After another hour, I still had not been seen and the nurse could not give me an idea on the timing. This is unacceptable.
Even though I got referred to another doctor for the procedure wrap up, his team went above and beyond to follow-up with me post procedure. I had some minor issues post procedure and they were very responsive and diligent in follow-up.
Wish a plastic surgeon had been used to stitch up my scar. He was kind, personable, trustworthy and very informative as well as apologetic for being late. Score would've been higher if not late and stitching technique would be more cleanly executed. He's great otherwise!!!
The wait time for my appts in this department (over an hour for both my visits) is unusually long compared to other doctors at NW. the staff are helpful to suggest appts on certain days are better than others, but my work schedule doesn't allow for certain concessions. Be great if it was consistently better all around, no matter the time or day. My first appointment was first thing on a Monday morning and I waited 1 1/2hr, the second was on a wed at 1p. I can understand with other appt late the afternoon one being longer, but I was told at the first appt the second appt would be quicker! So prob best not to promise anything.
The initial nurse, and PA were attentive and did a wonderful job. It was obvious that Dr. Alam wanted to be in and out of the room quickly. He was thorough during the procedure but left the room without even speaking to me to summarize things. This sounds petty - but it was an odd way to finish the experience.
The front desk people, nurses, PA, and physician were all great but I waited an hour and a half for an appointment that they rescheduled on me. Also the man I was sitting next to was scheduled for an appointment at the same time as me with the same physician.
I feel like their office might need an update on their day to day logistics and procedures. First, when I called to schedule an appointment, the woman who assisted me was not friendly and didn't explain anything at all about what the procedure would be, if I would get stitches, etc. I also didn't receive an email notification or text message reminding me of my appointment. Second, I get to the office on time and she already said there was an hour wait for everyone coming in. It took them 3 hours until I was able to get the procedure done, after hour 2 of waiting, I was finally taken back to a room where they numbed me, but had to ask for them to numb me again since I had to wait an hour for Dr Alam to come in and do the procedure. The nurse assistances were friendly and nice, in addition to Dr Alam, it's just the wait time that really was a killer.
Dr Alam performed the first laser procedure, he was in and out of the room within minutes and I did not get a chance to ask my questions. His PA, Jamie performed the second laser procedure and was far more helpful and provided a good understanding of the next steps. She also replied to my emails in a timely manner.
This was the first time I met the doctors (Alma and Lee) and the nurses in dermatology. All made me feel comfortable and all seem concerned. Doctors Alma and Lee were very friendly, had a sense of humor, and made me feel at ease. Yet they were professional and made me feel confident in their abilities in performing my Mohs surgery. They are an asset to your organization.
He kept me waiting for 1-1"2 hours. He claims that effective November 1, 2020, his scheduling will be more efficient. His professionalism and bedside treatment are excellent. His knowledge and explanation of the procedure and the cause was helpful and comforting.I AM GRATEFUL to him and his staff.Thank you!
Both Jenelle G, RN, and Jamie, PAC, were very proficient and informative. They managed to keep me informed when Dr. Alam kept me waiting for 1-1/2 hours. I felt taken care of and in competent hands. I AM GRATEFUL to them.Thank you!
What is there to say? He is the man. His intelligence and wisdom can span from strategy for the profession to choices under pressure and world-class surgical craft. He is a human and treats his patients as if they were too.
While Dr. Alam was very nice, I felt like he completely rushed through the procedure. As this was my first laser treatment, it would have been nice if he had walked me through the process and explained what it would feel like and post-procedure considerations I should know about. He was in and out of the room in less than 5 minutes, and it felt like the patient care was lacking.
I had to wait 4 weeks to see Dr. Alam. I had a 1:00 PM appointment today and finally got into the exam room at 2:30 PM With the exam and two small biopsies my total time was almost 3 hours. I can appreciate the Dr. running late, but i should have be given a phone call, making me aware that he was running 90-120 minutes. I drove all the way from Palos Heights, so I did not want to come back downtown. If I was made aware of the lengthy delay, i would have rescheduled, instead of waiting 2 hours. My time is as important as the Dr's.
As you send me this survey, I am still sitting in an examination room 4 HOURS. & 15 min later. No explanation, no information. An assistant was sent in to finish my procedure. I notified the staff that I had another Dr appt At 1:30pm. I arrived here at 9:30am and was told that Dr Alam was running behind. Over 4 hrs? Unacceptable! I heard other patients complaining about the extreme delays from previous visits. Give patients an option to re-schedule or SCHEDULE FEWER PATIENTS. '
He should not have had a nurse talk to me in the waiting area about changing what I was there for. That's a consultation for a doctor that has examined me. He is obviously overbooked and all for the money. Not about the patient. Extremely disappointed.
My visit was fine and I think the procedure was likely effective but I had to wait for two hours after my appointment time to be seen. Also, Dr. Alam first told me that the procedure would feel like a rubber band snapping against my skin (I.e. not that painful) but right before I started asked if I was ready to scream(?). I had a pretty traumatic facial injury in June and have a lot of anxiety around anything surrounding my face. Dr. Alam was treating the scar from that injury and his bedside manor just didn't make sense to me.
This is a pre-existing condition which was being overseen when I previously lived in D.C. My doctor there was against operating, and my new doctor thought it should be operated on. The specialist I saw today agreed that it might be possible to treat the area affected with medication, which I shall be doing.
Dr. Alan was fantastic and all other staff were very nice, but the wait was ridiculously long. I waited for 2 hours in the waiting room and then another 45 minutes in the room. It was 6:30pm by the time I left! A doctor's office visit should never take 3.5 hours!
I like Dr. Alam but he's always so behind. He left the room as I was asking a question post-procedure making it clear he had other places to be. He does have a good demeanor with patients, but I've been in several times and he always acts like I've never been there before.
