5.0 star star star star starHe presented me with all the treatment options and then gave me his best recommendation which was in line with what worked best for me. As an overweight woman, he also didn't try and blame the issue on my weight, which was incredibly affirming of the discomfort I have been feeling. It's so important for people of size to receive unbiased care and suggestions for recovering from injuries/conditions.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Smyth recommended I have the humerus surgery which was a difficult decision for me but he was honest about how my arm would heal without the surgery. I feel my arm is healing well after the surgery.

5.0 star star star star starI felt comfortable having Dr. Smyth do the surgery as he put my dislocated shoulder back in place when I was in the ER and I felt comfortable enough with him and trusted his opinion to then have the shoulder surgery.

5.0 star star star star starDr Mark P. Smith made me feel comfortable in my decision to reconstruct the ACL with surgery . He answered all the questions I had and honestly just made me feel like he was a professional at what he does. I'm very pleased with leaving my surgery up to him.

5.0 star star star star starWhen I first met with Dr. Smyth, he made an effort to make a personal connection with me based on the personal information in my chart. That made me feel comfortable with him from the start. He took his time to assess the issue with my knee, asking questions about my accident along the way. When I met with him for a follow-up, he remembered that I have other injuries that I'm also dealing with, and again, he took his time with me, allowing me plenty of time to ask my own set of questions. He's a kind and compassionate man.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Smyth was OUTSTANDING. Knowledgeable, compassionate, and he provided excellent post op care. And he was very honest with us too - yet thoughtful so he didn't scare my son. Our outcome was excellent. He's a keeper!

3.0 star star star star_border star_borderI appreciated how he immediately entered the room and shook my hand to introduce himself to me as the patient and my husband, who was also with me. His bedside manner is pretty matter of fact. Not sure of how he will be the day of my surgery. I certainly hope his surgery skills are top notch!

5.0 star star star star starVery kind, took his time explaining our options, the risks and benefits as well as his professional opinion that best suits my son. Trish also was wonderful and thorough. Both made this experience wonderful and hopeful for a solution. Thank you!

5.0 star star star star starI'm a scardy-cat about surgery but he was great in the weeks prior answering all my questions whether at an appointment or via my chart. The paperwork I received in advance helped me plan out my ice machine, perscriptions, schedule PT, and get my supplies and home set up for convalescence. On the day of surgery he came in to see me in the pre-surgery area and helped reassure me again. After surgery he spoke to my husband and confirmed the procedure went well and explained it all and my expectations and needs for after surgery so my husband knew how to best care for me at home.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Smyth provided a comprehensive overview of our treatment options, and was very proactive in scheduling a surgical date that would permit our son to not only travel, but also participate in his upcoming athletic season. He really tried to understand our child's priorities, which is incredibly appreciated.

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg.
