At Northwestern Medicine, our patient’s feedback is important to us. While different care providers have their own unique strengths, we strive to be as transparent as possible with our quality of care.
I had appointment at 3:30PM on Sept. 30th to have needle biopsy on the enlarged nodules on my thyroid. I was initially seen by physicians assistant and man named Frank. She (PA) did ultrasound on my thyroid in what seemed like an educational session for Frank. They then left for several minutes. Dr. Patel came in at about 4:20PM and informed me that he wanted to send biopsy sample out for genetic testing to Affirma. However, he said, they had missed the 4:00PM FedEx cut-off to send out the sample. He recommended that I come back the following week to have the needle biopsy done so he could send sample to Affirma. I offered to drop off the sample at FedEx so that I didn't have to return for another appt. He and Maria (RN) said no. I requested that we schedule the appt. early in morning on Oct. 7th to make sure they had time to prepare the sample for FedEx pickup. This occurrence is particularly aggravating because I now have to take time out of my schedule to go for second appointment for a procedure that should have been accomplished at the original appointment. I assume that they have sent previous samples to Affirma for genetic testing so they should have been aware of the 4:00PM FedEx cut-off. I have been a client at Northwestern Medicine for several years and have never encountered this lack of planning and lack of concern for the patient's time. At this point I am questioning whether I want to continue with Dr. Patel as the physician to perform my thyroid needle biopsy.
Dr. Urjeet A. Patel, MD .Is extremely patient and professional. He communicates like a champion coach that makes sure his (patients) are at a great comfort level and that they understand the plan to win. The road map to recovery that his department presents through his guidance was the most amazing instructional and useful material I have received and I have been a teacher for 40 years. Urjeet A. Patel, MD is the reason me and my family will always come to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for all our medical needs.
