5.0 star star star star starIn my 36+ years as ophthalmology patient at research institutions across the globe, I felt the most respected by and confident in the care I received from Dr Volpe and his team at Northwestern. Dr Volpe expertly balances the tension between patient care and resident/student education. He corrected and instructed students while still making the care feel personal and approachable in situations where other research institutions had previously made me feel like a specimen. I appreciate the sense of humor and pragmatism he brings to the work. He took the time to explain his approach, recommendations and the risks/benefits. He answered all of the questions my husband and I brought to the table with openness and thoughtfulness. I also appreciated the approachability and conscientiousness of Dr Bolton, the resident I saw for pre-op and surgery. I was the most anxious for the suture adjustment and she helped me feel calm and confident.

5.0 star star star star starI've seen Dr. Nicholas Volpe since 2010 when it was discovered I had a rare eye disorder when I was pregnant. He's always been tremendously caring, thorough, and professional. He takes the time to explain the condition and his thoughts about the next steps.

5.0 star star star star starDr Volpe is clearly at the top of his field. He is gracious, warm, thorough and clearly an outstanding diagnostician. Spent a remarkable amount of time with me and gave clear explanations of his diagnosis and future treatment plan. Couldn’t be any better in any way. I am so grateful.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Volpe. As his #2. Dr. Gu. The exam was thorough beyond belief. And Dr. Volpe's presence, and brilliant 2-minute dictated summary of the exam, was extraordinary. I'd had my share of doctor's appointments over the years, and my share of fine doctors, but this is the appointment I'll most remember. The speed and humanity of it.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Volpe is amazing, very knowledgeable and really knows what he is doing as well as cares about his patients. My surgery went without a hitch and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The only reason I do not give a 10 rating is because of his assisting nurse Bridget. She was very unnervingly not willing to talk to me or attempt to make things less nerve racking as they can be in appointments and she seemed like she strongly disliked me and let it show in her care. I would try to make small talk to make it less of an awkward ordeal and nerve racking but she only gave me short judgmental responses. I understand if she was having a bad day but she was like this with me every appointment I had there and made it extremely uncomfortable for me. I also understand that she has a lot to do in her job but part of that is being nice and the slightest bit comforting to the patients which she very much was not to me. Other than that, I have nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Volpe!

5.0 star star star star starDr. Volpe always takes the time to explain things and is thorough with his exams. Over the years, he has helped me understand what is acute, what is something we watch, and what is something that comes with aging. His demeanor and knowledge is so valuable.

5.0 star star star star starDr Volpe is the best! I came in worried (and slightly terrified) I would need a third surgery and he was very reassuring. I appreciate that he explains things in a way I can understand, and I also appreciate his sense of humor.

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg.
