Message from the LFH CNE

A Message from the Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital (NMLFH) Bernthal Chief Nurse Executive

I am speaking for all NMLFH nurses when I say we are so proud to be a twice Magnet designated organization in recognition of nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Our Intensive Care unit is the recipient of the Beacon Award and our Emergency Services the recipient of the Lantern Award. Cancer Services is certified by QOPI (Quality Oncology Practice Initiative) for quality and nursing excellence and we are accredited with distinction for our Practice Transition Program for Nursing from the ANCC.

Our inter-professional practice model depicts our commitment to both the values of Northwestern Medicine and the central tenants of Relationship Based Care. Nurses at NMLFH sustain an engaged culture and have authority to drive change and influence innovation. Nursing advances the synchronicity of the health care team to improve care delivery and enhance professional nursing practice.

NMLFH nurses partner with local and regional community members to ensure our Patient’s First mission continues to improve the health of the communities we serve. We aim to exceed the expectations of our patients by providing an exceptional patient experience while achieving exemplary quality and safety outcomes. We are patient advocates and work to impact health care policy through education of our legislators and representatives in local and national government.

Nurses of all levels at NMLFH share an aligned vision of using our robust shared decision-making model to create a caring healthy environment, foster high nurse satisfaction and provide for the promotion of attributes expected from our nurses Professional, Patient Advocate, Collaborative, Knowledgeable and Compassionate. Along with Northwestern Medicine, we provide opportunities for professional and academic growth and an active voice in determining concurrent and future nursing needs.

I am honored to say I see our NM values of Excellence, Teamwork, Integrity and Patient’s First displayed every day and every shift by our nurses. If you are looking to be professionally and personally challenged, valued and supported by all leaders at NMLFH, please talk with us about becoming an NMLFH nurse. I invite you to learn more about the exciting nursing opportunities at Northwestern Medicine.

I can say frankly and honestly that I believe that our nurses are the best in Lake County and I truly appreciate their outstanding work and dedication to the profession of nursing and patient care delivery.

Warm Regards,
