Overview

Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital Wound Care meets the needs of patients with acute, chronic or surgical wounds or ostomies, often due to complications from chronic diseases. The clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and physical therapists with either advanced training or certifications in wound care management.

Parking and Transportation

On-site parking is available 24/7 at no cost for patients and visitors. Please use the entrance off of Parking Lot 4.

Services

Types of wounds treated at the clinic:

  • Arterial ulcers caused by poor blood flow
  • Venous leg ulcers due to poor function of vein valves
  • Foot wounds from damaged nerves or trauma
  • Pressure ulcers (skin breakdown over bony points)
  • Traumatic wounds, such as cuts or puncture wounds
  • Surgical infections or opening of an incision
  • Wounds related to cancer or diabetes
  • Infected wounds

Additional clinic services:

  • Ostomy care – Surgically created urinary or fecal openings can develop complications including leaking and skin irritation. Certified wound-ostomy continence nurses offer treatment.
  • Edema treatment – Swelling in the lower extremities can hamper wound healing. The clinic employs certified lymphedema therapists.
  • Physical therapy – Our therapists can employ specialized wound-healing techniques and attention focused on mobility and recovery of function.
