DeKalb County Partnership For A Substance Abuse Free Environment
DeKalb County Partnership for a Substance Abuse Free Environment
The DeKalb County Partnership for a Substance Abuse Free Environment (DCP SAFE) is a county-wide coalition of organizations committed to substance abuse prevention. DCP SAFE began in 1989 as a joint effort to reduce alcohol and tobacco advertising in the local school districts. Out of this initial partnership has developed a broad coalition involving:
- Community members
- Government agencies
- Law enforcement
- Nonprofit agencies
- Private industries
Collaboration has been an asset to the coalition as they continue to work on prevention projects. Some of these projects include partnering with law enforcement in DeKalb County to promote Prescription Drug Take Back Days and medication safety.

Youth Advisory Committee
The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a subcommittee of DCP SAFE. The YAC involves diverse groups of students in 9th through 11th grade who have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and positively impact the community through substance abuse prevention activities. The YAC envisions a community that supports healthy choices so individuals can build healthy, safe and successful lives free of the challenges associated with substance use.
YAC members have the opportunity to:
- Learn about the risk and protective factors related to alcohol and other drug use.
- Learn about prevention strategies.
- Plan and implement two National Prevention Week activities related to the prevention of underage drinking and prescription drug misuse.
