
Psychiatry and the Law
Providing expertise in a variety of legal issues and clinical subspecialties, the Division of Psychiatry and the Law gives you access to highly trained academic faculty. Our experience comprises performing objective psychiatric and psychological examinations, consultations with attorneys, record reviews, provision of testimony, and psychological and neuropsychological testing for both civil and criminal cases.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University has a reputation for providing high-quality mental health care. Since 1994, the department’s Division of Psychiatry and the Law has answered a variety of both civil and criminal legal questions.

Stephen H. Dinwiddie, MD
Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Dinwiddie received his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School, completed his residency in psychiatry at the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, and has held faculty positions at Washington University in St. Louis, Rosalind Franklin Medical School and the University of Chicago.
Gaurava Agarwal, MD
Associate Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Agarwal earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, completed his residency in psychiatry at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, and is the first psychiatrist to win the George H. Joost Teaching Award for outstanding clinical teacher.
Cara Angelotta MD
Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Angelotta received her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed psychiatry residency training at Cornell University and a forensic psychiatry fellowship at Columbia University.
Michael Brook, PhD
Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Brook received his doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and completed an internship in clinical psychology and neuropsychology at Rush University Medical Center and a fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University.
Richie Cockerill, MD, MBE
Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Cockerill completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship and his residency at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center, earned a Master of Bioethics degree from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a medical degree from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Gershan received his medical degree from Tel Aviv University, served as chief resident of the inpatient service at Georgetown University Hospital, completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at New York University and trained in the inpatient correctional setting at Bellevue Hospital.
Lauren K. Robinson, MD, MPH

Dr. Robinson earned degrees in medicine and public health at Tulane University in New Orleans and completed residency and a fellowship in clinical medical ethics at University of Chicago.
Yelena Semenova, DO
