Symptoms of Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis symptoms will vary, depending on the patient and whether the condition is acute or chronic. Symptoms may include:

  • Severe belly pain, especially after you eat
  • Pain radiating to the back or chest
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Swelling and tenderness in the upper belly (caused by fluid buildup)
  • Fever
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Lower blood pressure than usual
  • Jaundice (yellow tint to the skin and eyes) 

Complications of pancreatitis can include:

  • Chronic pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Weight loss
  • Vitamin deficiency
  • Pseudocyst (collection of fluid) around the pancreas
  • Diabetes
  • Pancreatic cancer
