Muscular Dystrophy Treatments

While there is no cure for muscular dystrophy, certain treatments can manage symptoms, prevent deformities and improve quality of life. Treatments include:

  • Physical therapy to strengthen muscles and prevent atrophy
  • Medications, including clinical trials
  • Positioning aids to assist with sitting and standing
  • Braces and splints to support weak muscles
  • Nutritional counseling for weight management
  • Psychological counseling to cope with physical changes
  • Surgery to correct scoliosis or maintain the ability to sit or stand
