Pterygium Treatments

Often, no treatment is necessary in the early stages of a pterygium. If you are experiencing eye pain, difficulty moving your eye, irritation or blurred vision, however, treatments may include:

  • Eye drops (over-the-counter or prescription)
  • Gel (over-the-counter or prescription)
  • Ointment (over-the-counter or prescription)
  • Surgery

Surgery is often a last-resort treatment, since a pterygium can regrow after surgery. The regrowth can be larger, harder to remove and cause more symptoms than the original pterygium.
