About the Patient and Family Advisory Council

The Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at Northwestern Medicine Dauten Behavioral Health Institute works to plan, evaluate and improve our care. The PFAC includes patients, family members and Northwestern Medicine representatives.

The PFAC works to:

  • Improve collaboration among clinicians, patients and families
  • Provide feedback to improve quality and safety
  • Advocate for patient-centered care

The PFAC is a vital connection between the institute and the patients we serve.

Member Requirements

Members must be:

  • Patients who received psychiatric care at Northwestern Medicine within the last three years for bipolar disorder
  • Family members of a patient who received psychiatric care at Northwestern Medicine within the last three years for bipolar disorder

In addition, members should be:

  • Comfortable speaking and working in a group
  • Able to generalize their own experiences and provide constructive feedback
  • Committed to improving care for all patients and family members
  • Respectful of the collaborative process and the PFAC as the forum to discuss issues

Your Commitment as a Member

Members must:

  • Attend a volunteer orientation
  • Serve a two-year term (you may be able to serve a second term depending on the PFAC’s needs)
  • Follow privacy requirements
  • Attend bimonthly meetings
