Donors Support Breakthrough Medical Care

Donor generosity enables Northwestern Medicine to offer the most advanced treatments to patients with complex medical needs.

Our health system is using a groundbreaking approach to transform kidney transplantation for patients who are unable to receive general anesthesia. Awake kidney transplantation allows the patient to receive spinal anesthesia rather than general anesthesia that puts them to sleep. In some cases, patients are returning home less than 24 hours after their transplant.
