Admissions Process

Histotechnology Program Admissions Process

Admissions Policy

The Histotechnology Program welcomes students from all backgrounds and is dedicated to providing equal opportunity to applicants. The program does not discriminate in the recruitment and admission of students or in the operation of its educational programs or activities. Applicants are considered for admission based on individual merit and without regard to age, race, color, national origin, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, parental status, military or veteran status, or source of income in the provision of educational services.

The Admissions Committee uses a holistic review approach that considers all aspects of an application and offers admission to the most qualified applicants. The committee evaluates applications on the basis of your academic performance, references, patient care experience, personal statement and personal interview with members of the Admissions Committee. Based on these factors, applicants are ranked for admission. Applicants will be notified of the program’s admissions decision via email well in advance of the program’s start date.

The Histotechnology Program reserves the right to deny admission, continued enrollment or re-enrollment to any applicant or student whose personal history and background indicate that their presence at the hospital would endanger the health, safety, welfare, or property of its patients, visitors and employees, or interfere with the orderly and effective operation of the hospital's functions.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Policy

Students in the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare Clinical Schools and Programs must have a high level of English language aptitude. If your native language is not English, you must present evidence that you are proficient in English. Please read our TOEFL Policy for more information.

Foreign Transcript Evaluation

All foreign transcripts and degrees must be evaluated and translated into U.S. equivalency by Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), an independent evaluation provider.

If you have taken courses or earned a degree at an institution outside of the U.S., you must email a full translation of the transcript into U.S. equivalency with your application.

Transfer of Credit

We will not recognize program-specific core course credits completed at other institutions. You will not be given preference or advanced placement if you have previously completed program-specific course work at other institutions.

No credit is given for experiential learning.

Interview

We will ask the most qualified applicants to attend a panel interview with members of the Admissions Committee. Your performance in this interview will be factored into our selection process.

Selection Criteria

We will evaluate all applicants using the following criteria as part of the competitive selection process:
