Fall Prevention

More than one third of adults age 65 or older who live at home fall each year. Many people who have experienced a fall develop a fear of falling, which causes them to limit their usual activities. As a result, they decrease their fitness level and increase the risk for additional falls and a restricted social life.

Northwestern Medicine offers fall prevention services that emphasize fall prevention principles and the maintenance of proper physical fitness to promote a safe, active and functional lifestyle.

We combine muscle strengthening with balance and gait training, as well as home and environmental safety education. A comprehensive assessment of your strength, balance, current function and home safety is conducted by our physical and occupational therapists, followed by design and management of an individualized treatment program that's right for you.
