Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital Maternal Transfers

Maternal Transfers

A clinician at a referring hospital initiates maternal transfer services. As a Level III Tertiary Care Center, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital’s Maternal Transfer Program is committed to caring for pregnant patients who need specialized care not available at their local facility.

We are equipped to receive physician referrals for maternal transfer 24/7 on our transfer hotline. Common indications for transfer may include:

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Premature rupture of membranes
  • Pre-term labor
  • Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy
  • Maternal medical complications
  • Anticipated NICU cares
  • How It Works:

    1. A physician or nurse from the transferring hospital should contact the Central DuPage Hospital Maternal Transfer Hotline at 630.933.7551. Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine team is available 24/7 to discuss the referral for transfer.
    2. A Labor and Delivery Unit charge nurse will complete a brief intake with the referring physician.
    3. You will then be connected to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and obstetrician to discuss the clinical situation.
    4. Upon a decision to accept the patient, ambulance dispatch will be coordinated and an estimated time of arrival will be communicated.
